SignalGeneriX new FP7 NMP project
SignalGeneriX announces the kick-off of a three year 3.25M€ FP7 NMP project where is focusing on the development of the main electronics and FPGA processing unit for a novel surface coatings inspection tool.
The NATURAL project allows for rapid evaluation of surfaces at the nano-scale and correlates the measured surface structure with functional performance. NATURAL integrates a range of precision sensor devices utilising laser and optical techniques with high end reconfigurable processing, to provide detailed mapping of low energy surface coatings developed for wind turbine blades, on land or on floating offshore platforms.
The goal is to evaluate the performance and lifetime of such coatings in the field using a portable device, which is otherwise performed by taking samples to a laboratory, a costly and time consuming process. Features include remote monitoring and control of the sensors, and remote data gathering, which allows for off-line detailed data analysis. This step change in measurement methodology enables new lifetime determination methods, and enhances the knowledge base for providers of nanostructured coatings and surfaces to tailor their products and technologies towards the end-user needs.
